Place of Origin

Native to Ceylon (Sri Lanka), true cinnamon, Cinnamomum zeylanicum, dates back in Chinese writings to 2800 B.C. and is still known as kwai in the Cantonese language today. Its botanical name derives from the Hebraic and Arabic term common, meaning fragrant spice plant 

Recipe Usage

Cinnamon bark is used as a spice. It is principally employed in cookery as a condiment and flavoring material. It is used in the preparation of chocolate. especially in Mexico. Cinnamon is often used in savory dishes of chicken and lamb. 

 

Use

It is used to mellow the tartness of apple pie..cinnamon and sugar are often used to flavor cereals, bread-based dishes, such as toast, and fruits, especially apples; a cinnamon-sugar mixture is sold separately for such purposes.

Storage tips

Ground cinnamon as well as sticks should be kept in a tightly sealed glass container in a cool, dark, and dry place. Ground cinnamon will keep for about six months, while cinnamon sticks may stay fresh for as long as one year. The best judge of freshness is your nose.
